It was a day to forget for SF City FC and our supporters as City emerged on the wrong end of 6-0 defeat against league powerhouse FC Golden State Force on Sunday. Now, the team can move past the weekend and focus entirely upon its upcoming Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Round 2 match against the USL’s Sacramento Republic FC. City advanced out of Round 1 by defeating CD Aguiluchos USA (NPSL) 4-0 last Wednesday.
SF City FC President and CEO Jacques Pelham offered these thoughts on the weekend’s action: “Already this PDL season we’ve had high highs and low lows. The results this weekend were a bitter pill to swallow but we move forward knowing we have a chance to make history in the Open Cup on Wednesday and get our PDL season back on track next weekend.”
“Despite the scorelines, there were a lot of positives from both games. We created consistent chances and showed great commitment and intensity despite some unlucky breaks and unavoidable fatigue from playing back to back matches.”
“All focus is now on Wednesday’s match vs. Sacramento Republic in the Open Cup. It’s the biggest match in Club history and Paddy and the squad are ready to bounce back and rise to the occasion.”
SF City’s demanding away slate to open the season continues with a tough test at the Golden State Force, who in 2017 dealt City a heavy 4-0 defeat at Rio Hondo on their way to the top spot in the Southwest Division. Paddy Coyne’s squad will look to gain crucial road points this time around.
