SF City came up just short in a hard-fought match that featured a scary hit on our goal keeper and a late game heartbreaking goal by three-time national champions Stanford University. City took a 1-0 lead into the 2nd half courtesy of a Carlos Carranza strike, but were unable to hold on until the end. At the final whistle, it was 2-1 Stanford.
Assistant coach Patryk Tenorio commented “The guys fought hard and did well to stay disciplined with the game plan Paddy laid out for the team. Eventually our squad’s patience and trust in the tactics was rewarded with the first goal of the game.
The final goal of the game was absolutely unfortunate but such is the game of football sometimes. Things can change in an instant.”
Back-up goal keeper Max Lau stepped up heroically when starter Taylor Bailey had to be taken off the field with a concussion. “After Taylor was injured Max kept us in the game with a worldie save in the second half” continued Tenorio, “he showed lots of maturity in his play.”
