SF City scored early and often to take a decisive 8-2 victory over PSA Royals last Saturday at Leland High School Stadium in San Jose.
The youth powered side (the SF City Summer League team is largely made up of current and recently graduated college players at the Under 23 age group level) set the tone early, with new signing Nick Littleton (Santa Barbara CC/Gonzaga) scoring twice in the first 25 minutes.
As the first half continued, City continued to dominate possession and create chances with midfielder/captain Danny Kirkland dictating the rhythm of the match and spraying passes to his teammates.
Kirkland’s passing and City’s cohesive attacks kept the momentum and plentiful scoring chances resulted, with the side scoring 3 more goals before halftime.
With the game all but decided, PSA lost their composure in the second half having two players sent off for violent conduct. Despite the chippiness of the match (and with more space as a result of PSA’s two ejections), City continued to score and create chances at will with Kirkland, midfielder George Plakorus, forward Jordan Mustacchio and forward Carlo Eikani all contributing to the City scoreline.
PSA was able to steal two on momentary SF City lapses, but the result was sealed and the two second half goals were little consolation for PSA, who fell to a superior SF City side.
With the win, SF City improves to 2-0 in NorCal Premier Summer League Play. PSA Royals fall to 0-1.
Next Match: Saturday June 27, 1:00 p.m. Crocker Amazon vs. San Ramon Soccer Club.
