Where Are They Now? College Soccer Update Part II

It’s almost been 2 weeks since we introduced you to our initial college soccer update and we’d love to give you the latest of… Where are they now?!

San Francisco State University Gators (4-1):
The Gators have not lost since September 1st and seem to have found their stride under their new head coach, Javier Ayala Hil. The team has scored 11 goals and has only conceded 3. SF State freshly dispatched CSU Monterey Bay this past Wednesday 3-2. Senior goalkeeper Manny Jimenez now has 3 shutouts out of the 5 games. Junior transfer midfielder Andy Altamirano scored over the weekend and added an assist. Senior midfielder Ashley Watson added an assist against CSU Monterey Bay. Senior midfielder Emmanuel Serrano has started and played in all matches in a deep lying holding midfield role. The Gators aim to continue their recent success vs. Chico State at home.

St. Mary’s Gaels (1-3-2):
The Gaels got their first win in nearly 3 weeks this past weekend against UNLV by a score of 4-1. Junior midfielder Max Mirner had an assist in that match and played in all but 5 minutes. Mirner also played 78 minutes on Friday, a 2-nil loss to Western Michigan. This weekend, the Gaels host Air Force and Cal State Fullerton.

Stanford Cardinal (1-1-3):
An interesting defense of the National title continues for the Cardinal. Their non-conference matches have been close as they’ve tied 3 of their 5 matches thus far. Last weekend, Stanford thumped San Jose State 4-1. Junior goalkeeper Andrew Epstein played the entire match in net and Senior midfielder Bryce Marion completed 66 minutes and added and assist. Senior midfielder Trevor Hyman came off the bench for about 15 minutes. Stanford has two non-conference opponents this weekend as Harvard and the University of Nebraska-Omaha come to town.

University of San Francisco Dons (2-3):
The Dons have had an up and down non-conference season. After winning two matches over Labor Day weekend, the Dons have slumped to two defeats on the road in Florida (lost @ Florida Gulf Coast 2-1 and University of South Florida 2-0). Senior forward David Garrett scored against the Eagles in the only goal for the Dons last weekend. Sophomore midfielder Jordan Hughes also saw some action, playing the 2nd half of the South Florida match. Senior defender Christian DeLuna played the entire match at Florida Gulf Coast. The Dons host Cal State Fullerton and Air Force this weekend on the Hilltop.

California Golden Bears (1-2-1):
Cal has not played in nearly 2 weeks after two losses on the road at Indiana (2-1), Notre Dame (5-0) and looking to get back winning ways. Senior defender Trevor Haberkorn has played almost every minute for the Bears. Junior forward Matt Chasman only played in the first two matches of the season thus far. Cal also hosts Harvard and Nebraska-Omaha in Berkeley this weekend.

Notes:
-Yale’s Junior defender Josh Totte played about a half hour against Sacred Heart in a 2-0 victory for the Bulldogs last weekend.
-Santa Clara University’s Senior defender Martin Riedler has not featured this season. Sophomore midfielder Dylan Caton will not play for Santa Clara until January 2017 due to suspension.
