SF City FC is committed to providing top quality soccer opportunities for our City’s youth while honoring the civic and sporting legacy of San Francisco. Our mission is to teach the fundamental soccer skills needed to play at the most competitive level, while also building values at the core of every great athlete: respect for self and others, perseverance and an indomitable spirit.
Our commitment to eliminating the “pay to play” system — a system that prevents access for many of our youth — promotes social responsibility and preserves the integrity of the beautiful game. Soccer is a sport that should be accessible to all without the financial burden club association often brings. SF City FC believes in a top-down rather than bottom-up club support structure, with the the sponsorship for our premier teams benefiting our youth academy, and not the other way around.
This pathway from micro-soccer (U6 and U7) to the adult teams also provides a harmonious, consistent approach to technique with coaches unified in tactical systems of play that are both age- and level-appropriate. It also gives provides our young players role models — mentors both on and off the field.
Age- and Skill-Appropriate Programs
We currently have squads playing competitive soccer in SFYSL’s CCSL Prep and NorCal Travel. We aim to better serve all players at the level where they can achieve the greatest individual player development — from recreational to elite, creating a pathway to our PDL squad.
Seasonal Play, Year-Round Commitment
SF City FC believes the development of the whole athlete, and this means enabling the players to cross train in other sports. But we also believe in team spirit and loyalty, and ask our players to think of the team first, prioritizing the club’s obligations over other teams or activities.
With our current SF City FC Youth teams playing at a competitive level, players understand that they have made a year-round commitment with mandatory twice weekly practices during the (fall and spring) playing seasons. (Practice schedules and year-round play adjusts with the player’s age and level of play.) All players, whether in rec or comp, are encouraged to participate in additional summer soccer camps or training and maintain year-round fitness. They should be fast, strong and game-ready at any time of the year.
Beyond the Field: Life Skills and Community Involvement
SF City FC provides meaningful service to the local community, and offers local youth the chance to learn and grow as students of the game and citizens in San Francisco’s unique cultural environment. We participate in at-risk development programs such as Street Soccer USA, and provide access and equity for all our City’s youth.
SF City FC also hosts family days out, youth clinics, and other community-building events designed to build a positive soccer culture. Our goal is not to just create winning teams, but to develop smart, strong and responsible individual athletes who are always learning, and always giving back to their families, friends and City.
